Iconography of Narasimha as portrayed in literature and sculpture with special reference to Tamilnadu

The topic chosen for the first award was not a usual one and I had to visit most of the places from where I had drawn reference. The fieldwork done for this award was a very exciting experience it helped me to look into many other aspects connected with t. The study has actually resulted in a source book for future reference and this is in my opinion the most satisfying part of the Study Grant.

A study of Hebbar and his contemporaries

This award was given to me when a student in MS University Baroda. It was timely and helped me to be more articulate by using photographs, travelling to Mumbai to meet the late K K Hebbar. My document was the first critical assessment of the artist and was published in Bangalore (where I was then Lecturer at Chritakala Parishath, in the local language Kannada.

Study of Shikargarh motifs in the miniature paintings and textiles of Mughal North India

This award enabled me to do fieldwork in the Varanasi area and to document research material in the Indian Museum Calcutta, and the National Museum in New Delhi. This impacted on my later research, writing and teaching.
